First Fingerpainting Experience

September 22nd, 2008

I’m not 100% sure she enjoyed this. She certainly didn’t actually seem to look at the picture or grasp the cause/effect of what she was doing. She just made lots of requests for more paint and pieces of tape. Katya draws with crayons like that too. She likes moving the crayon over the paper, and seems not to notice at all that the paper has changed.

We tried out a new storytime today and shall not return for quite some time. Tooooo much sitting on your carpet square and copying the Storytime Lady. In the play area of the library afterward Katya did a happy dance on the Clifford floor puzzle a slightly older (and slightly horrified) child was putting together. I really find this whole toddler social interaction thing horribly stressful.

15th Month Interests

September 19th, 2008

Hanging upside down–an old favorite.

The mall/Jfer, Sean and Evan. Here we are visiting with Darth Vader at Pottery Barn Kids. He made Katya cry.

“Vacuuming”

Toddling over at random to turn the TV on. I love the way the static makes her hair stick up.

Baby Loves the Jacuzzi

September 19th, 2008

Today I let Katya run around the pool area (keeping VERY close by, needless to say). She really wanted to touch the water in the Jacuzzi. We go about every other night instead of her bath/my shower and just rinse off out there. I let her put her feet in on the step. I explained that she wasn’t wearing her bathing suit. And then she promptly sat down in the water. The best part was that about 30 seconds after Katya got out she got really mad that her clothes were so wet. In fact, her center of gravity was changed enough by the 100% soaked cloth diaper that she kept falling over.

Bill takes K by himself some nights. She just lies back against his chest and relaxes. One night last week she fell asleep on him out there and was SO conked out that she didn’t wake up until he was getting out of the shower with her.

Poop, Poop, and More Poop

September 18th, 2008

Well. Katya is 15 1/2 months old now. The virtual server that held this blog–and the backups–was accidentally deleted. So I lost 10 months and I’m not quite sure how to deal with that. Especially with almost no time.

Also. My mom died August 26th. I hate to make it sound like that is just one thing out of a list of things that suck, but I just don’t feel like writing much about it.

Speaking of poopiness, Max ate some of Katya’s poop out of the potty today. She ate a bunch of meat yesterday and she doesn’t usually. I never expected this.

Yesterday, Katya handed a toy to one of the neighbor kids and he responded by trying to bite her nose.

We’re hitting another language explosion. New words from the last few weeks: hot, spots, penguin, breast (“bess”), spider (“spy”), back, bark, puppies, bread. New sounds: chicken “bawk,” cow “moo”

Old words, since they got deleted: up, hi, bye, bump, dog, beans, mommy, dad, more, Maisy, mango, Max (all M words sound like ma or mama sometimes), eyes, ice (usually means water but can be ice), yeah and what are we forgetting???? Sounds: dog panting, vacuum noise, baa
