I’m Using Pronouns!

May 27th, 2009

For the last couple of days, Katya has been making announcements such as, “I’m eating O’s!” It took me a day or 2 to realize that she is no longer always referring to herself in the third person, despite watching lots of Elmo. Yay!

Katya also just started saying garbanzos instead of “banzo.” She now says penguin instead of “pengoo.” It’s sort of cool and sort of sad.

Nur-ur-ur-sies has become nur-si-si-sies has become no-no-no-no-nursies.

When I use “me” in a question to her, she often calls me “me” in her response. I sort of wonder if she thinks “me” is short for “Mommy.”

Almost 2!!!!

Katya has begun going down even big slides by herself, sometimes. She even climbs up all by herself sometimes.

Katya has been really into the word NO lately. Sometimes I suspect the allure of the NO wins out over what she really wants. (“Chocolate chip!” “Do you want chocolate chip cookies, or just chocolate chips?” “No.”) There is also much failing to answer questions, compounded by (non-bratty) repeating of what I say  (“Do you want some? Yes or no?” “Yes or no.”).

Fortunately the booming language development evens out these new communication challenges. Today Katya walked into the laundry room, looked at me, and said, “Diaper failure.”

We went strawberry picking, and Katya ate a TON of strawberries out in the field. She ate the stem of the first one! Back home, she was once again interested in talking about them but not eating them. I suspect the interest in saying NO to foods is a factor in the truly amazing amount of nursing K is doing right now.

Yesterday Katya walked up to us with a CD and said, “CDEFG!” She has been requesting the 3 penguin songs on one of our CDs.

Katya continues to be excited about books related to our trip. Going on an Airplane by (Mister) Fred Rogers is a favorite, as is Cowgirl Rosie and Her Five Baby Bison. There’s another book about tightrope walking over Niagara Falls that she likes more than I expected. Katya is also currently very fond of Shoes by Elizabeth Winthrop.

Here’s another vacation picture. Katya is showing Elmo dinosaurs.

Back from Buffalo

I took Bill to the Anchor Bar, where Buffalo wings were invented. The adults got wings. The little person got a buffalo with wings. I have been informed that in this picture it is pooping. Katya really likes saying the word “buffalo.” I think at first she thought we were going to see buffalo, the animals. Then she started to understand that it was the city name, but still wanted to see the animals. Near the end of our trip, she pointed out the window a lot and told us that it was Buffalo. And then she started talking about how “elephants climb trees. Break into four pieces.” I have no idea where that came from.

I hope to write/post more later. We’ll see.

Because a few people have mentioned that there haven’t really been any here. And I actually felt sort of cute dressed up for Angie and Christian’s wedding.
